May All Children

10 Feb

In 1986 (the year I graduated from high school!), Music Together founder Ken Guilmartin wrote a song about children living in peace for the Montclair Cooperative School”s celebration of the 40th anniversary of UNICEF. After the September 11, 2001 tragedy, Ken composed a new arrangement for the song and named it “May All Children,” which debuted on the Music Together STICKS collection in 2002. In addition to the arrangement we hear on our CDs this semester, Ken wrote a version to be sung by choral groups. Music Together donates all royalties from this song to UNICEF, supporting that organization’s work towards a peaceful planet for children (and adults) worldwide. I sang in a choir for a few years and wanted our group to sing “May All Children.” We never did, but I still wish we had. Maybe someday…
